The Clinical Lab Professional 2 will provide primary support to the Martha Morehouse Laboratory and secondary support to ancillary James laboratory locations as needed. The laboratory provides comprehensive, time-sensitive services to patients with a variety of diagnoses or admission/discharge criteria. Staff perform testing on patient specimens utilizing chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and coagulation analyzers. The laboratory also provides training for residents, new staff, and medical technology students.
The lab is staffed 10 hours per day, Monday through Friday, with hours varying according to workflow and holidays.
The Clinical Lab Professional 2 performs routine automated and manual testing procedures, dispatches specimens to appropriate testing locations, performs test requisition entry, ensures accuracy of test results, documents quality control, quality assurance, and preventative maintenance on instrumentation. The role includes verification of reports, test requests, accuracy, and quality of specimens collected, training others in these techniques, and handling phone inquiries regarding patient results, specimen collection, and testing frequency.
The position reports to the lab manager and lead technologist(s).
- For Hire: Bachelor’s degree in a clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution OR Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology AND Bachelor’s degree in a chemical or biological science. 0 years of relevant experience required. ASCP certification required within 1 year of hire.
- Ongoing: Meets mandatory hospital education and health surveillance requirements. Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions.
