Technology-Based Training Developer
The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) seeks a Technology-Based Training Developer for the Division of Information Technology Services (ITS). The role involves designing, developing, and maintaining technology-based learning solutions to support staff, providers, and customers across the state.
Responsibilities- Involved in all phases of technology‑based training: development, programming, research, implementation, planning, and design of learning activities.
- Conduct independent needs analysis using surveys, interviews, and business requests.
- Recommend performance improvements and assess training effectiveness.
- Collaborate with internal IT staff and business users to evaluate software changes and future training needs.
- Design and develop the overall architecture, navigability, usability, and functionality of web‑based and computer‑based training solutions, including code writing as needed.
- Create and integrate graphics, text, and interactive multimedia into learning materials.
- Select appropriate training methods and technology combinations, considering cost analyses.
- Research the technology‑based training field to recommend suitable tools and vendors.
- Build websites for instructional and reference purposes.
- Identify subject‑matter experts and stakeholders, conduct interviews, and gather instructional content.
- Write training objectives, edit materials, and design performance measurements using statistics.
- Evaluate and measure courses to validate instructional design and determine success.
- Use participant feedback to revise instructional materials.
- Develop online and other learner assessments.
- Implement instruction via computer‑based training, web‑based training, online testing, electronic discussion groups, EPSS, on‑the‑job training, and classroom delivery.
- Install, link, coordinate, and maintain technology‑based training systems, diagnosing and resolving learner issues.
- Coordinate with technical staff and manage the learning environment for learner success.
- Operate training equipment and media for instruction; give and receive feedback.
- Present live training to small and large audiences.
- Develop, test, implement, and maintain EPSS (e.g., wizards, online help systems, documentation) using advanced software tools (e.g., Articulate, Captivate, Course Mill, Lectora, MOODLE, Walk Me).
- Attend workshops, seminars, and professional meetings; review books and publications for professional development.
- Perform minor repairs/adjustments and troubleshoot equipment and software.
- Prepare correspondence, reports, and maintain records using Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
- Answer inquiries regarding training policies, procedures, and technology‑based training usage.
- Disseminate information on offered training; respond to inquiries and complaints.
- Schedule classes and technology‑based training and arrange live training locations statewide.
- Completion of an undergraduate core program in education (including student teaching) or 2 years of training or 2 years of experience in assessing, researching, designing, developing, evaluating, and delivering instruction to adult learners.
- 2 years of training or 2 years of experience in using software or application systems to create and deliver technology‑based training (e.g., Author ware, Articulate, Captivate, Course Mill, Dreamweaver, Lectora, MOODLE).
- 18 months of training or experience using Microsoft Word or Word Perfect.
- 1 year of training or experience creating web pages using programming languages (e.g., HTML, DHTML, XML, JavaScript, CSS).
- 6 months of training or experience in web art manipulation programs (e.g., Fireworks, Shockwave, Flash, Photoshop).
- Equivalent qualifications: minimum class qualifications noted above.
