Lead Solutions Engineer; Hands-On, Leadership Track

22 is looking for a hands-on Lead Solutions Engineer to help us scale how we design and deliver modern digital solutions—without pulling great engineers away from the work.

This role is ideal for a senior engineer who already leads by example and wants to grow into a delivery-focused leadership role over time, through influence, clarity, and execution—not hierarchy.

You’ll start as asenior, hands-on technical contributor, designing and building real solutions alongside the team. As Base
22 continues to grow, this role will naturally expand into atechnical delivery leadership position, helping bring structure, alignment, and clarity across projects.

• Design and implement modern digital solutions using React, modern front-end frameworks, API-first and service-oriented architectures.
• Write production-quality code
• Build proofs of concept and reference implementations
• Participate in code reviews and technical problem-solving

• Provide day-to-day technical direction across projects
• Translate requirements and designs into executable technical plans
• Identify delivery risks, dependencies, and trade-offs early
• Help align front-end, back-end, and integration work

• Lead technical discussions, whiteboarding sessions, and design reviews
• Clearly explain what’s being built, why decisions are made, and what comes next
• Mentor and support other engineers through guidance and collaboration

• Participate in working sessions with clients, including State of Ohio agencies
• Explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
• Represent Base
  22’s technical credibility in delivery conversations

• 5–8+ years of hands-on experience building modern web solutions
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure and/or AWS

• Leads through influence, not authority
• Comfortable switching between coding, architecture discussions, and delivery guidance
• Strong communicator—clear, pragmatic, and collaborative
• Enjoys bringing structure and clarity to ambiguous situations
• Organized and goal-oriented
• Curious and proactive about using AI tools to improve engineering productivity, decision-making, and delivery quality
