About the PositionWe are seeking a detail‑oriented, execution‑focused Data Center Operations Technician to support customer requests and day‑to‑day operational activity within a 24x7 colocation environment. This role is the primary hands‑on operational resource for remote hands services, structured cabling, interconnection support, physical‑layer validation, alarm response, and operational monitoring within the data center.
Shift2nd Shift: Wednesday – Saturday 2:00 pm – 12:00 am
Pay$28 – $35 an hour, plus a shift differential.
What You Do Daily- Execute remote hands services and customer support requests, including reboots, media swaps, visual inspections, cable tracing, and basic physical‑layer tasks
- Install, test, label, and maintain structured copper and fiber cabling, patch panels, and cross‑connect infrastructure in accordance with site standards
- Provision and troubleshoot customer and carrier interconnection services within defined physical‑layer scope
- Monitor security, environmental, and equipment alarms; perform rounds and readings; validate field conditions; and escalation of issues appropriately
- Maintain accurate documentation for cross‐connects, connectivity paths, capacity tracking, and operational activities
- Support physical network hardware readiness through rack‑and‑stack assistance, optic swaps, cable management, and visual checks
- Help maintain data center cleanliness, orderly pathways, and operational discipline in technical spaces
- Support controlled access and escort procedures within secure technical areas in accordance with site requirements
- Participate in rotating 24x7 on‑call support and flexible scheduling as needed
- Hands‑on experience in data center operations, structured cabling, telecom, IT infrastructure, or a similar technical environment
- Strong working knowledge of copper and fiber media, patching practices, cable testing, and physical‑layer troubleshooting
- Ability to execute precise work in live customer environments without creating avoidable risk
- Strong attention to detail in labeling, documentation, change control, and customer‑facing task execution
- Ability to recognize environmental, equipment, or operational abnormalities and escalation clearly and appropriately
- Comfortable working in a 24x7 environment where responsiveness, professionalism, and consistency matter
- Brings strong execution discipline and follows procedures carefully in live production environments
- Works with urgency while maintaining accuracy, documentation quality, and customer‑impact awareness
- Understands physical‑layer dependencies and knows when to act, when to verify, and when to escalate
- Maintains professionalism in customer‑facing work and cross‑functional coordination
- Supports operational readiness through reliability, flexibility, and attention to detail
- Customer requests and remote hands tasks are completed accurately, professionally, and on time
- Cross‑connects, cabling, and physical‑layer work are clean, well‑documented, and reliable
- Environmental, equipment, and security‐related issues are identified quickly and escalated with useful context
- Documentation remains current and supports provisioning, troubleshooting, capacity planning, and audits
- Technical spaces remain organized, safe, and ready to support ongoing operations
- The site has confidence in the technician’s execution, responsiveness, and operational judgment
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or related certifications preferred
- 2+ years of experience in data center operations, structured cabling, telecom, IT support, or a related field preferred
