Responsibilities- Perform component-level repairs and troubleshooting on technical equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot operating systems, computer/server hardware, or networking protocols.
- Lifting/moving 50lb equipment and performing physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting.
- Work non-standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, holidays, and shift-based schedules.
- Deploy and operate new data center infrastructure across projects or functions.
- Report issues and follow data center procedures to troubleshoot and diagnose straightforward issues with equipment or infrastructure.
- Maintain security and integrity of data, tracking media to check for standard data security issues.
- Disassemble equipment that has reached end-of-life via part replacement or maintenance.
- Repair, fix, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, or infrastructure with limited guidance.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Completion of the online Google IT Support Professional Certificate program.
- 2 years of experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer/server hardware, or networking protocols.
- Experience performing component-level repairs and troubleshooting on IT equipment or in a similar role (e.g., Systems Administration, Network Deployment Engineer, Help Desk Technician).
- Experience working within a data center or network operation center environment.
Ability to collaborate with teams to overcome challenges and adapt to changes in a dynamic work environment.
Google’s Hardware Operations team monitors the state‑of‑the‑art physical infrastructure behind Google’s search technology. As an Operations Technician, you will install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and maintain hardware such as servers and their components, as well as server software such as Google’s Linux cluster. You will also configure complex components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking protocols. You may participate in or lead small project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans.
A typical day involves manual movement and installation of racks and is physically demanding.
The AI and Infrastructure team emphasizes delivering AI and infrastructure at scale, efficiency, reliability, and velocity. Your work supports a broad range of Google customers, from internal Googlers to Google Cloud customers and users worldwide.
US: $78,000 - $111,000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + bonus + equity + benefits
