At Nationwide®, “on your side” goes beyond just words. Our customers are at the center of everything we do and we’re looking for associates who are passionate about delivering extraordinary care.

This role will work a hybrid schedule coming into the Columbus, Ohio office 2 days per week on Mondays & Wednesdays.

We are seeking an Azure Infrastructure Engineer to join a cloud platform engineering team responsible for building, automating, securing, and supporting Azure infrastructure used by enterprise application teams. This role includes Azure subscription and resource group buildout, Azure Dev Ops and deployment automation, storage and file‑share engineering, security remediation, networking and connectivity support, and operational/on‑call ownership.

The ideal candidate is a hands‑on infrastructure engineer who can partner with application teams, architecture, security, and operations teams to deliver reliable Azure platform capabilities while improving automation, guardrails, and supportability across the environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build, configure, and support Azure subscriptions, resource groups, shared infrastructure, and application environments across development, test, and production use cases.
  • Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot Azure Dev Ops pipelines, deployment automation, and Power Shell-based tooling used to provision and update Azure infrastructure at scale.
  • Engineer and support core Azure platform components such as virtual machines, storage accounts, Azure Files and Blob Storage, App Services, application gateways, Key Vault integrations, load balancers, and related platform services.
  • Partner with application teams during working sessions to deploy infrastructure, enable application hosting patterns, resolve platform blockers, and improve deployment consistency.
  • Support networking and connectivity needs for Azure-hosted workloads, including firewall requests, DNS coordination, private endpoint connectivity, and cross‑environment access patterns.
  • Improve Azure security posture through policy guardrails, App Service and storage remediation, RBAC‑based access patterns, key and credential lifecycle management, and collaboration with security and compliance stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot production issues related to logging, monitoring, authentication, storage access, deployment pipelines, and Azure service configuration, and drive issues through to resolution.
  • Participate in on‑call rotations and operational support for Azure platform services, including incident response, change implementation, and platform reliability work.
  • Contribute to modernization, migration, and platform‑improvement efforts by breaking down work, refining implementation approaches, and helping create scalable solutions for repeated engineering needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience engineering and supporting Microsoft Azure infrastructure in an enterprise environment, including resource groups, virtual machines, storage services, networking, access controls, and shared platform components.
  • Experience with Azure Dev Ops, YAML‑based deployment patterns, service connections, and automation using Power Shell or similar scripting languages.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, connectivity, logging, monitoring, and deployment workflows.
  • Experience implementing or supporting secure access patterns such as RBAC, Key Vault‑based secret handling, federated credentials, private endpoints, and policy guardrails.
  • Ability to work directly with application teams and cross‑functional partners to understand requirements, guide implementation decisions, and deliver practical infrastructure solutions.
  • Ability to manage work in a structured way across change control, implementation tasks, and operational follow‑through in a production environment.
