Consultant, Technology Innovation Analyst (TIA)

Role Overview

Nationwide Commercial IT is seeking a Consultant, Technology Innovation Analyst to help shape the future of our Small Commercial and Middle Market segments. This is a high‑impact role at the intersection of business strategy and technology execution, where you’ll turn big ideas into actionable, value‑driven solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Translate complex business needs into clear, fundable initiatives
  • Drive elaboration, estimation, and prioritization practices
  • Influence investment decisions and product direction
  • Solve meaningful challenges with innovative technology solutions
  • Define and maintain technology innovations
  • Explore industry technology developments and identify innovation opportunities
  • Apply secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle
  • Provide portfolio support for technology innovation efforts in partnership with other Nationwide teams
  • Partner with others to ensure the technology strategy aligns with the business strategy
  • Quantify benefits and develop business cases for transformation efforts and innovation initiatives
  • Evaluate and prioritize business requests, determining the appropriate course of action
  • Execute medium‑ to low‑complexity projects that recommend changes to business processes through technology application
  • Plan engagements focused on building recommendations and business cases
  • Provide consultation on Nationwide Technology strategic planning efforts, gathering high‑level business requirements and defining scope during initial discovery
  • Maintain knowledge of multiple business functions and initiatives to identify conflicts or synergies between technologies and business functions
  • Assist in managing initial vendor relationships and maintain a forward‑looking view of vendor direction
  • Execute the decomposition of business strategic plans into outcomes, values, and capabilities
  • Plan and collaborate with business experts to conduct moderate‑to‑complex analysis and build deliverable artifacts
  • Determine how changes in business and technology strategy may impact roadmaps and update roadmaps accordingly
Qualifications
  • Strong skills in requirements definition, backlog management, and facilitation
  • Ability to think strategically while executing tactically
  • Proven ability to work across business and IT boundaries
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Passion for innovation, problem‑solving, and continuous improvement
  • Eight to ten years of experience delivering technology‑enabled business solutions and transformational change across industries, platforms and lines of business within the insurance and/or financial services industries, or equivalent consulting experience
  • Education:

    Undergraduate degree in computer science, management information systems or a related field preferred
  • Technology certifications or designations encouraged but not required
  • Knowledge of planning, ability to influence, build relationships, negotiate, and set priorities needed; solid executive presence; insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus
Work Arrangement

This role will work a hybrid schedule requiring you to come into one of the following offices two days per week (Monday & Tuesday):
Columbus, Ohio;
Des Moines, Iowa; or Scottsdale, Arizona.
