This position will be hired on a Success Flex basis. The hired associate must reside within 35 miles of the following location: 1 Nationwide Plaza.

Work schedule:

at least 2 days in office, 3 days remote. This role does not qualify for employer sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program.

Job Description Summary

With evolving internal auditing requirements and increased operational, financial, strategic and technology risks in a Fortune 100 protection organization, Nationwide prioritizes internal audit as a critical component of our business strategy, governance and success. As the Sr Director, Internal Audit – Digital Auditing Insights, you will lead a team responsible for enabling data & analytics, process intelligence, AI and other digital capabilities across Property & Casualty (P&C), Nationwide Financial (NF), Corporate and Technology audit portfolios. You’ll provide centralized expertise and support to audit teams and drive the design and execution of digitally enabled audit and advisory approaches.

You and your team will also support IA’s operational reporting, tooling and continuous improvements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute IA’s strategy for data analytics, automation, process mining, AI and visualization across assurance and advisory engagements.
  • Partner with IA peers to embed digital techniques into planning, fieldwork and reporting.
  • Oversee development and maintenance of repeatable analytic routines, dashboards and insights; ensure data governance, documentation and quality across domains.
  • Lead efforts to leverage process mining, AI and advanced analytics to identify anomalies, emerging risks and control improvement opportunities; support evaluation of AI-enabled business processes and controls.
  • Collaborate with Professional Practices to integrate digital capabilities into IA methodology, templates and training; influence tool and platform selection and use.
  • Work with risk partners to drive an integrated approach to digital assurance techniques within the Three Lines of Defense framework at Nationwide.
  • Provide analytics and reporting to support IA operations (e.g., plan coverage analytics, issue tracking, KPI/KRI reporting, portfolio views for SVP and Audit Committee).
  • Build digital literacy across the IA organization through coaching, training and reusable assets.
  • Manage the budget for digital tools, licenses, data sourcing and external support needed to execute the digital auditing strategy.
  • Lead and develop a hybrid team of data, analytics and audit professionals; foster collaboration, continuous improvement and accountability within Internal Audit.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships

Reports to:

VP, Internal Audit. Leads a team of three direct reports and 10 indirect reports. Oversees an internship program for IA (2–4 interns).

Typical Skills and Experiences

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Accounting, Finance with an analytics emphasis, or related quantitative field; advanced degree preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Professional certifications in audit, data & analytics or technology (e.g., CIA, CISA, CFE) strongly preferred.

Experience: Typically 10+ years of progressive experience in internal or external audit, data analytics or risk analytics; ideally in insurance or financial services.
