Overview
The Senior Director, Internal Audit – Digital Auditing Insights leads a hybrid team that empowers data‑analytics, process intelligence, AI, and digital capabilities across Nationwide’s Property & Casualty, Nationwide Financial, Corporate, and Technology audit portfolios. The role designs and implements strategies for digital audit and advisory approaches, supports continuous improvements, and drives the use of advanced analytics to identify risks and opportunities.
Key Responsibilities- Design and execute IA’s strategy for data analytics, automation, process mining, AI, and visualization across assurance and advisory engagements.
- Partner with IA peers to embed digital techniques into planning, fieldwork, and reporting.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of repeatable analytic routines, dashboards, and insights that support audit coverage across P&C, NF, Corporate, and Technology domains.
- Ensure appropriate data governance, documentation, and quality.
- Leverage process mining, AI, and advanced analytics to identify anomalies, emerging risks, and control improvement opportunities.
- Support IA’s evaluation of AI‑enabled business processes and controls.
- Collaborate with Professional Practices to integrate digital capabilities into IA methodology, templates, and training.
- Influence the selection, implementation, and use of IA tools and platforms.
- Work closely with risk partners to drive an integrated, technology‑driven Three Lines of Defense approach.
- Provide analytics and reporting for IA operations, including plan coverage, issue and action tracking, KPI/KRI reporting, and portfolio views for senior leadership.
- Build digital literacy across the IA organization through coaching, training, and reusable assets.
- Manage the budget for digital tools, licenses, data sourcing, and external support required to execute the strategy.
- Lead and develop a hybrid team of data, analytics, and audit professionals, fostering collaboration, continuous improvement, and accountability.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Accounting, Finance, or a related quantitative field (advanced degree preferred).
- Professional certifications in audit, data & analytics, or technology (e.g., CIA, CISA, CFE) strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in internal or external audit, data analytics, risk analytics, or related disciplines, ideally within insurance or financial services.
- Proven expertise in using analytics, automation, and digital tools within audit or risk management.
- Strong understanding of insurance and/or financial services data and processes.
- Ability to translate business and risk questions into analytic solutions and communicate results effectively to non‑technical audiences.
- Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage influence across a matrixed environment.
- Strong leadership, collaboration, and continuous improvement skills.
