Actuarial Consultant
Nationwide is hiring an Actuarial Consultant to join Personal Lines Pricing. This role will have a focus on the Homeowner's line of business, where actuarial insight helps shape pricing strategy, manage risk, and support profitable growth across personal lines.
In this role you will have the opportunity to influence business decision through recommendations on catastrophe and weather pricing, rate making assumptions, planning and forecasting, and monitoring emerging loss trends.
Reporting to PL Actuary Pricing Leader, this is a collaborative, high-visibility team that values curiosity, continuous learning, practical problem-solving, and innovative approaches to pricing decisions.
As an Actuarial Consultant, you will help turn complex insurance data and evolving risk dynamics into clear pricing recommendations and business decisions. You will contribute to the continued modernization of personal lines pricing while building strong partnerships across actuarial, risk, and business teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform and support actuarial analyses that inform personal lines pricing weather loss and trend assumptions.
- Partner with Risk Management on catastrophe, reinsurance, and profit assumptions for pricing
- Support innovation, refinement, and documentation of property pricing methodology
- Contribute to planning and forecasting activities, including the development and delivery of pricing opinions.
- Monitor loss trends and emerging experience, identifying implications for current year financial results and opportunities to improve pricing assumptions.
- Translate technical analysis into clear recommendations for business partners and pricing leadership.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or another related quantitative field.
- ACAS designation, or significant progress toward achieving actuarial credential preferred.
- Growth in actuarial experience, ideally in P&C pricing, personal lines property, catastrophe pricing, or a related insurance discipline.
- Working knowledge of traditional actuarial pricing methodologies and the ability to apply sound analytical judgment to complex business questions.
- Experience using data to evaluate loss trends, support pricing decisions, or develop recommendations for business partners.
- SQL experience, or the ability and interest to learn SQL quickly.
- Exposure to Python, R, Databricks, Snowflake, or similar analytical tools is beneficial.
- Experience with homeowners pricing, catastrophe and weather risk, or planning and forecasting is a plus.
This role does not qualify for employer sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program.
It is our intention to fill this role in Columbus, OH, Scottsdale, AZ or Des Moines, IA. However, applications from candidates working remotely who bring critical industry skills and relevant experience may be considered.
