Job Description

The Ohio Attorney General's Office is currently seeking an organized and detail‑oriented individual for a Paralegal/Legal Assistant 2 for our Constitutional Offices section. The Constitutional Offices Section represents Ohio’s statewide officeholders, including the Governor, Secretary of State, Auditor, Treasurer of State, and those elected to the Ohio Supreme Court and to the General Assembly. This position provides paralegal support to attorneys and will work a hybrid in‑person/remote schedule, subject to training and operational needs.

E. Broad St., Columbus.

Responsibilities
  • Research federal and/or state statutes, recorded judicial decisions, and other legal sources and reference materials to prepare responses to inquiries, complaints, claims, and legal/administrative procedural issues.
  • Perform internet and other computer‑assisted searches for information and documents.
  • Assist in the preparation and presentation of cases in litigation, including document review, verification, and organization.
  • Help prepare and respond to discovery requests and public records requests.
  • Contact opposing counsel or court/board personnel as necessary to assist in case preparation and presentation.
  • Assess, log and index incoming and outgoing electronic and paper document productions.
  • Use document management software to prepare legal correspondence and case management software.
  • Draft legal briefs and memoranda, contracts, pleadings, motions, affidavits, legislation, rules and/or regulations.
  • Prepare case summaries, legal documents and reports for review, approval and signature by or for section attorneys.
  • Maintain case calendars and case files.
  • Manually and/or electronically file legal documents with the court on behalf of attorneys.
  • Respond to general inquiries.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree OR Bachelor’s core program in paralegal studies or related field AND successful completion of a certificated program for paralegal or legal assistant AND 48 months experience in legal research & writing.
  • OR Associate’s degree OR Bachelor’s core program in paralegal studies or related field AND successful completion of a certificated program for paralegal or legal assistant AND 48 months experience as Paralegal/Legal Assistant 1, 63810.
  • OR successful completion of 24 months of education from an accredited law school.
  • OR equivalent of the minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.
