A leading mechanical contractor in the Columbus market is seeking a Procurement Engineer to support commercial and industrial construction projects by managing procurement, equipment, materials, and supplier relationships from project kickoff through closeout. This role works closely with project managers, field teams, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure projects stay on schedule, within budget, and supplied with the materials needed for success.
Responsibilities- Serve as the primary point of contact for all procurement and supply chain activities on assigned projects.
- Manage the procurement of HVAC equipment, materials, and specialty items from purchase through delivery.
- Coordinate buyouts, purchase orders, delivery schedules, and material tracking.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with manufacturers, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Negotiate pricing and secure competitive quotes while maintaining project schedules and budgets.
- Attend project meetings to support procurement planning and resolve material or logistics challenges.
- Process subcontract agreements, change orders, invoices, and purchase orders.
- Manage equipment rentals, warranties, returns, and inventory.
- Support project cost control, logistics planning, and project closeout activities.
- Work collaboratively with project teams to minimize procurement delays and maximize operational efficiency.
- 3–5+ years of procurement, purchasing, supply chain, or project support experience within the mechanical construction or HVAC industry.
- Working knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment, piping, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
- Experience working directly with vendors, manufacturers, and subcontractors.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Established relationships with local HVAC manufacturers, suppliers, and mechanical subcontractors.
- Bachelor's degree or coursework in Business, Supply Chain, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
