ResponsibilitiesAs a Railyard Terminal Manager
, you will lead a complex railyard operation with a strong focus on safety, administration, maintenance, train performance, and overall productivity. This is a "Working Manager" role, requiring active involvement in all aspects of the railyard operations—including working outdoors and standing for extended periods. You will also provide leadership for employees, systems, and safety practices while ensuring that key performance indicators (KPIs) are met, including train performance (Lifts per Hour, Cost per Hour, etc.).
The ideal candidate possesses critical thinking, strong communication, and analytical skills to thrive in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
- Lead the day‑to‑day operations of the railyard, ensuring a safe, productive, and efficient environment.
- Actively participate in railyard activities, working alongside staff in all areas of operation, including train performance, safety, and maintenance.
- Lead the terminal to meet KPIs, including Lifts per Hour, Cost per Hour, and other operational benchmarks.
- Provide strong leadership to terminal staff, enhancing employee engagement and retention through development and support.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships between Con Global and local railroad officers, ensuring smooth operations.
- Serve as the key point of contact between Con Global and customers, fostering strong customer relationships and addressing concerns as needed.
- Enforce and uphold all Con Global rules, regulations, and policies, administering disciplinary actions when required.
- Oversee terminal purchases and ensure expenditures are kept within budget while approving payments.
- Approve weekly time and attendance, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of payroll data.
- Work closely with Talent Acquisition to ensure the terminal is adequately staffed and operational needs are met.
- Manage the training and orientation process for all new employees, setting them up for success and ongoing development.
- Provide regular terminal metrics and reports to management as needed, tracking performance against goals.
- Perform other administrative and non‑administrative duties as assigned by senior management.
- Minimum 3–5 years of supervisory experience, preferably in railyard management or a related field.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
- Exceptional organizational, multi‑tasking, and time‑management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are mandatory.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and the MS Office suite of products.
- Strong work ethic and the ability to lead by example.
- Must pass a pre‑employment background verification, physical and drug screening.
- The Federal Railway Administration sets and enforces safety regulations and standards for railroad operations. Use of cannabis is strictly prohibited. If applicable to the position you are applying for and if you are offered the position, you will have to take and pass a drug screen.
