Position Overview

OVE, a Congruex company, is seeking a qualified EHS Director to support the OVE team. The EHS Director will serve as the cognizant expert in matters related to health, safety and environmental (HSE) subjects, ensuring compliance with company, client, and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include oversight of safety programs, audit of construction and workplace safety, risk management, incident reporting, and partnership with business units to promote a safety culture.

Job Responsibilities
  • Enforce corporate and project-specific safety and health programs as well as federal, state, and local safety standards.
  • Oversee and audit construction and workplace safety compliance and practices at multiple subsidiary operations; present and implement risk management solutions for identified gaps.
  • Partner closely with the General Manager to plan, implement, and oversee a unified framework for consolidated safety improvement initiatives and reporting/metrics, including workplace safety, fleet safety, and general liability risks and controls.
  • Partner closely with Contracts Management to ensure all customer safety requirements are met in accordance with service agreements and contracts.
  • Partner closely with corporate and finance to align overall safety costs with consolidated itemized budgets.
  • Partner closely with People Services (HR), Engineering Directors, and Construction Directors to champion OVE LLC’s safety culture and collaborate on training strategy and delivery.
  • Oversee and ensure Federal and State Plan OSHA (CAL‑OSHA, others) compliance for all business units.
  • Manage the incident reporting and investigation process to ensure accurate and timely reporting of all incident information and determine root causes to prevent recurrence of similar injuries.
  • Work closely with corporate and Workers Compensation insurance carrier to ensure proper and efficient handling of claims and coordinate carrier risk control meetings and site visits.
  • Pursue involvement with professional safety and trade associations.
  • Travel up to 50% domestic as required.

  • Experience with government regulations and comprehensive knowledge of federal OSHA (Part 1926), Cal‑OSHA, DOT, ANSI, and related standards.
  • 10+ years of progressive construction safety experience.
  • Willingness to travel overnight as needed.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a deadline‑driven environment.
  • Strong communication skills to influence supervisors, peers, subordinates, and external stakeholders.
  • Continuous learning mindset, maintaining certifications (as applicable) and staying abreast of industry trends.
  • Experience leading teams independently while maintaining direct lines with multiple C‑level executives for escalations.
  • High emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills to build relationships at all levels.
  • Strategic thinking to keep focus on key drivers of organizational performance.
  • Effective coaching, mentoring, and feedback to maximize team member capabilities.
  • Possession of the values of GRIT – guts, reliability, improvement, and teamwork.
Technical Skills
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office:
    Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Office 365:
    One Drive, SharePoint, Outlook, Microsoft Teams.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field.
  • Board of Certified Safety Professionals designation(s) (CSP, ASP, CHST, etc.).
  • OSHA 30 and/or OSHA 500 certification.
