Construction Project Executive

Location:

On-site in Columbus or Cleveland, OH

Travel:
Up to 40% nationwide, but starting initially in Columbus and Cleveland

Salary: $170-210k DOE plus 30% bonus

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Construction Project Executive to lead and deliver complex mechanical and MEP projects from business development through project closeout. The role combines strategic leadership, project management, financial oversight, and field operations expertise to ensure safe, on-time, and on-budget delivery. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of MEP and HVAC systems, prefab methods, and strong commercial acumen to drive profitable growth and maintain high standards for quality, safety, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead project lifecycle from pursuit and bid support through planning, execution, commissioning, and closeout, ensuring alignment with client expectations and company objectives.
  • Manage project financials including budgeting, cost forecasting, change management, progress billing, and preparation/presentation of financial reports to senior management.
  • Oversee MEP/HVAC and mechanical construction activities, ensuring technical compliance, constructability, and schedule adherence.
  • Drive business development and client relationship management by supporting proposals, scope development, negotiations, and identifying opportunities for repeat work and service expansion.
  • Coordinate and lead site walkthroughs, inspections, audits, and quality assurance activities to verify workmanship and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and implement safety plans, enforce site safety standards, and lead incident reviews to maintain a zero-harm culture.
  • Manage prefab strategy and coordination with offsite fabrication teams to optimize schedule, cost, and quality outcomes.
  • Set up projects at inception including project controls, reporting structures, resource plans, subcontractor packages, and procurement strategy.
  • Supervise and mentor project teams, including project managers, superintendents, engineers, and field staff; promote collaboration and professional development.
  • Implement and monitor construction controls, risk management, and mitigation plans to proactively address project issues.
  • Coordinate with design, engineering, procurement, and commissioning teams to resolve technical issues and drive timely decision-making.
  • Lead client and stakeholder communications, progress meetings, and executive reporting, ensuring transparency and responsiveness.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or related field; MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in construction project management with significant exposure to MEP, mechanical, and HVAC systems; experience as an owners rep or executive overseeing multiple projects preferred.
  • Proven track record in P&L responsibility, project financial controls, budgeting, and delivery of profitable projects.
  • Strong experience with prefab/offsite construction methods and coordinating fabrication schedules.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, proposal preparation, and client negotiation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction safety standards (OSHA or local equivalent) and experience developing safety plans and enforcing site safety.
  • Experience conducting inspections, audits, site walkthroughs, and implementing corrective action plans.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills with the ability to mentor managers, build out teams, and oversee field groups.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Familiarity with project management and financial reporting software (e.g., Primavera, MS Project, Procore, CMiC, or equivalent).
