Job Summary

The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing all roasting and packaging activities within our warehouse, ensuring products meet quality, efficiency, and food safety standards. The ideal candidate combines hands‑on operational experience with strong organizational and leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities Production Leadership & Daily Operations
  • Oversee all coffee roasting and packaging activities to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent workflow.
  • Develop, maintain and audit production standards.
  • Monitor performance against standards and hold team members accountable through coaching, training, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure machines and equipment are maintained, calibrated, and operating safely.
Production Planning & Scheduling
  • Create and manage effective and efficient production schedules to meet daily, weekly, and monthly demand.
  • Balance labor, equipment capacity, and inventory availability to maximize efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Partner with Inventory Manager to forecast needs and prevent stockouts of green coffee, packaging materials, and consumables.
  • Track throughput, cycle times, and delays; propose and implement continuous improvement projects.
  • Ensure all appropriate inventory controls are followed and monitored.
Food Safety & Quality Assurance
  • Support the maintenance, improvement, and daily oversight of all food safety procedures and policies.
  • Ensure production staff consistently follow SOPs, sanitation procedures, organic controls, allergen controls, traceability, and documentation requirements to meet all food safety and organic requirements.
  • Conduct internal audits, corrective action reports, and training refreshers to maintain compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Participate in the Food Safety Team to consistently review and validate the site's food safety plan.
Team Development & Culture
  • Train, mentor, and develop roasting and packaging staff, fostering a culture of quality, safety, and accountability.
  • Communicate performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and support a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and disciplinary processes.
Metrics, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
  • Track and report on key metrics, including roasting yield, production throughput, waste reduction, efficiency gains, rework, and adherence to food safety standards.
  • Implement process improvements using lean manufacturing, 5S, or other operational excellence methodologies.
  • Regularly review SOPs and documentation for clarity, accuracy, and improvement opportunities.
Qualifications Required
  • 3+ years of experience in production, manufacturing, food/beverage processing, or similar environment.
  • Proven leadership experience managing production teams in a fast‑paced operation.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and manage complex production workflows.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and problem‑solving skills.
Preferred
  • Experience in coffee roasting and/or packaging.
  • Strong understanding of food safety principles (FSMA, HACCP, GMPs, etc.).
  • Familiarity with inventory management, Net Suite, ERP systems, or WMS tools.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing, 5S, or continuous improvement systems.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, lift 50 lbs, and perform physical tasks in a warehouse environment.
  • Ability to work around roasting equipment, heat, and occasional noise.
