Chemical Operator I - Columbus, OH
The Chemical Operator is responsible for ensuring adherence to the production schedule by compounding (batch mixing) concentrates and syrups in an accurate and timely manner. This position also extracts flavors, prepares mixes concentrate for use in intermediate batches, finished extracts, flavor blends, emulsions and juice products; completes documentation to support inventory accuracy and batch traceability; sanitizes equipment; and compiles reports on work progress, inventory levels, costs, and production problems.
The Operator ensures product quality by adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices and all Standard Operating Procedures.
This is a full‑time position working 3rd shift Sunday – Saturday 10:00 pm – 6:30 am (two days off per week). Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as scheduled is required.
Position Responsibilities- Maintains and executes the master sanitation schedule while adhering to facility safety practices and procedures.
- Operates sanitation equipment/Clean in Place (CIP) systems and completes product transfers to liquid packaging lines.
- Uses SAP to execute compounding transactions and follows SAP production instruction sheets.
- Weighs materials and pumps ingredients into and out of mixing drums and totes.
- Ensures all product meets quality specifications by sanitizing equipment, following recipes, and accurately measuring all ingredients. Conducts in‑process quality checks and provides samples for the quality lab.
- Records production information and material usage in SAP to support inventory accuracy and batch traceability; maintains production logs as needed.
- Monitors equipment performance and performs routine care and maintenance as required, working with maintenance technicians to resolve equipment problems.
- Compounds syrups and simple blends using general compounding skills.
- Mixes natural and artificial flavors, juices, dyes, and preservatives for use in intermediate batches using shear mixers and homogenizers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 2 years of batching or compounding experience (preferably in a comparable industry).
- Knowledge of emulsions and experience using homogenizers, extractors, or shear pumps.
- Proven computer skills with the ability to accurately input information.
- Ability to complete specific computer transactions related to the production process.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts and reasoning skills accurately.
- Must be able to complete forklift certification; prior forklift experience preferred.
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to frequently lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
Pay starting at $22.52 per hour.
