For over 35 years, The Volunteer Guardian Program (VGP) at the Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging has trained and supported volunteers to be a medical advocate for someone age 60 or over who falling through the cracks while living in a nursing home in one of the 6 central Ohio counties served. These guardians receive legal authority make medical and quality of life decisions for individuals who have no family able or willing to assist them and whose ability to make decisions is diminished from dementia, and other health related causes.
Volunteer Guardians do not handle money or have financial responsibility. Counties served are:
Franklin, Delaware, Licking, Fairfield, Pickaway and Fayette. Volunteers visit their person twice a month when it is convenient for them. Training and can access program staff for questions/ guidance provided. No special background is needed.
