About the Role

The Wellington School seeks a School Nurse who promotes and supports the health and well‑being of students across Wellington’s Preschool through Grade 12 community. This full‑time position is responsible for operating the school health office, providing direct care to students, administering medications, managing health records, and monitoring communicable diseases. The School Nurse works closely with families, faculty, and administrators to develop and implement individualized health plans and respond to medical needs as they arise.

In addition to ensuring day‑to‑day medical care, this role plays a vital part in fostering a safe, healthy school environment and contributes to broader wellness and health education initiatives across the school.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides direct nursing care to students and staff, including first aid, management of chronic conditions, and emergency response.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and school policies.
  • Maintains accurate, confidential health records for all students, including immunizations, health histories, and treatment logs.
  • Develops and implements individualized health care plans and emergency action plans for students with special medical needs.
  • Monitors and responds to communicable disease outbreaks; report as required to local health departments.
  • Serves as a liaison between the school, families, and medical providers to ensure coordinated care.
  • Educates students, faculty, and parents on health‑related topics, including hygiene, nutrition, chronic illness management, and mental health awareness.
  • Ensures compliance with Ohio Department of Health and Department of Education regulations, including immunization requirements and health screenings.
  • Maintains medical supplies and ensures the health office is prepared for routine and emergency care.
  • Participates in school safety planning, crisis response teams, and emergency drills.
  • Keeps up to date with current school health practices and professional nursing standards through continuing education.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

May supervise or direct the work of health aides, volunteers, or temporary staff assisting in the health office.

Required Skills & Abilities
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, parents, and staff.
  • Knowledge of childhood and adolescent development, common pediatric illnesses, and chronic condition management (e.g., asthma, diabetes, allergies).
