Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU/Med-Surg position in a secure corrections health unit, requiring Epic experience and an active OH or compact RN license.

• Corrections health unit setting within an oncology hospital, serving Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC) inmates in a locked, access-controlled environment
• Primarily assigned to the PCU with floating required to Oncology Med-Surg units as needed
• Patient population includes active oncology diagnoses (solid tumors and hematology), oncology workup admissions, post-surgical patients, and non-oncology admissions (COPD, sepsis, pneumonia, renal failure, etc.)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3 on PCU and 1:4–5 on Med-Surg
• CO-to-inmate ratio is 1:2
• Skills required include telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation, IV insulin protocols, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line management, heparin and cardiac drip management (no titration), PCA management, feeding tube care, hemodialysis (pre/post), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, tracheostomy care, and ABG interpretation

• Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
• Weekend shift requirements vary based on unit needs
• Candidates accepting a rotating 12D/N contract may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination, with shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
• Unit access is controlled by Corrections Officers; staff safety protocols are in place for this secure environment
• Support services available include interpretation services, pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, rapid response teams, respiratory services, social services, and transportation
• Oncology experience is preferred but candidates without it will be considered
• No mandatory break between assignments is required when changing representation at this health system (excluding Sterile Processing Techs)
• 2 professional supervisor references from within the past 2 years are required for consideration
• A full 7-year work history with all gaps explained is required for consideration
• All time-off and scheduling requests must be disclosed at the time of submission

• Active OH RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS certification required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Med-Surg and telemetry nursing experience required
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
• Ability to work in a secure, locked corrections facility environment
