Knowledge of professional registered nursing procedures; state and federal regulations, policies and procedures related to nursing; public relations; employee training and development; inventory control.
Description:
Provides professional nursing care to hospitalized individuals or to inmates and consumers housed in state-operated facilities.
Observes, assesses, and records symptoms, reactions, and progress of patients.
Makes nursing rounds and takes and records vital signs.
Prepares and administers prescribed medications and treatment plans and immunizations as ordered.
Monitors patients on a timely basis and provides immediate medical attention to emergencies.
Administers first aid and arranges transportation to hospital emergency facilities when necessary.
Counsels patients regarding the need for medical referrals.
Participates in staff development and education and reviews care plans written by staff.
Trains and orients new employees as assigned.
Responsible for all health care of bedridden patients in a correctional medical setting.
Evaluates care needed and rendered, creates care plans, and teaches healthcare principles.
Administers medications, including narcotics, and provides direct nursing care as needed.
Performs specialized procedures such as IV therapy, wound care, oxygen therapy, and CPR.
Organizes and oversees emergency response teams and directs health care staff assigned to the area.
Acts as the lead worker in charge of one assigned shift in the absence of higher-level nursing staff.
Assists in giving diagnostic health evaluations.
Performs clerical tasks, including documenting medications, treatments, and relevant medical information.
Completes required reports and maintains an accurate inventory of controlled substances.
Arranges for outpatient appointments and medical examinations.
Manages prescription orders from physicians through local pharmacies.
Performs administrative tasks and liaises with others in the organization.
Conducts and/or attends meetings as needed.
Serves as an instructor and participates in problem-solving teams or groups.
Demonstrates physical fitness and ability to manage diverse situations effectively.
