Scope of Position
The Ohio State University Medical Center’s mission focuses on integrating quality patient care, education, and research. The Nurse Manager leads a team of professional health‑care providers, cultivating collaboration, enthusiasm, and mutual respect; creates and facilitates an environment that supports the nursing professional practice model; and functions as a key member of the health‑care team that provides patient care and supportive services in an in‑patient setting directed toward achievement of positive patient care outcomes.
The position maximizes patient involvement in their own plan of care, improves service levels, reduces length of hospitalization, and decreases costs. The span of control for this position is based on unit capacity, unit complexity, and FTE oversight and is aligned with evidence that supports patient satisfaction, quality and safety, and staff engagement and resilience.
The Nurse Manager oversees plans, organizes, manages, and evaluates patient care operations for a designated area(s) on a 24‑hour basis as needed. Responsibilities include developing strategic short, mid, and long‑term goals and processes to enhance and improve unit operations, evaluating and identifying achievements and problems in meeting goals, guiding, coaching, and evaluating the work performance of staff, promoting collaboration with other patient‑care departments, managing unit budget plans, initiating cost‑saving initiatives, contributing to evidence‑based standards of practice, and identifying opportunities for improvement in patient care and organizational processes.
Required Qualifications- Baccalaureate degree in nursing (required);
Master’s degree in nursing or related field preferred. - Current Ohio RN license.
- Minimum of three years RN clinical experience and two years management experience in a relevant care setting.
- Holder of a current certification in nursing administration or a relevant area of clinical expertise (or must achieve certification within the eligibility timeline).
- Prior leadership and management experience.
Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post‑offer process.
