Scope of Position
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s mission is to improve health in Ohio and across the world through innovation in research, education, and patient care. The team provides patient care and supportive services directed towards achievement of positive patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient’s involvement in his/her own plan of care and reducing the length of hospitalization. The nurse plays a critical role in the education and supervision of students in the clinical setting, in addition to staff engagement, patient experience, quality and safety, and cost‑effective care.
PositionSummary
This role will function as a clinical nurse and student educator, who divides their time between providing direct patient care, leading nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team, supervising student patient care delivery, and teaching and evaluating nursing techniques of students. This role will also be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, delegating, and evaluating the nursing care of patients in alignment with the professional practice model.
The Nursing Clinical Instructor – ONA is a dual‑function role designed to enhance patient care delivery while supporting the development of future nursing professionals. This position is composed of approximately 67% direct nursing responsibilities and 33% clinical instruction for nursing students.
In the clinical capacity, the nurse provides high‑quality, evidence‑based care to patients, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal outcomes. Responsibilities include patient assessment, care planning, medication administration, documentation, and participation in quality improvement initiatives.
As a clinical instructor, the nurse mentors and supervises nursing students in real‑time clinical settings, fostering their growth through hands‑on teaching, feedback, and evaluation. This includes coordinating with academic partners, facilitating learning experiences, and ensuring students meet clinical competencies.

Minimum Qualifications- Master’s Degree in Nursing from a CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) or ACEN (Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing) accredited nursing program. Doctoral degree or current enrollment in a doctoral program is preferred.
- Current Ohio license or interim permit. Ohio APRN license required for advanced practice registered nurses. Two years of RN experience in a relevant care setting required, five years preferred.
Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post‑offer process.
