Job Description Summary
This position ensures delivery of evidence-based practice by professional nursing personnel and other staff in designated areas of responsibility. The clinical nurse manager plans, organizes, directs and evaluates the unit's delivery of evidence-based patient care in a cost-effective manner, providing leadership and clinical management to members of the health care team. The manager participates in integration of the Nursing Philosophy along with the mission, vision, values, goals and objectives of Ohio Health in unit operations.
Responsibilities50% Patient Care:
- Assist the Manager in accountability for ongoing delivery of patient care in areas of responsibility; ensure application of nursing process, documentation, resolve concerns, use data for continuous improvement, coordinate nursing care with interdisciplinary teams, ensure safe environment, participate in improvement activities, assist with fiscal responsibility.
- Assist in planning, assessing, implementing, and evaluating patient care as appropriate.
- Assist in staffing time schedules, allocate staff according to volume and patient care needs, aid daily staffing plans.
- Coordinate nursing care across continuum of health care.
25% Operations and Personnel Management:
- Maintain daily unit operations: staffing, patient visits, admissions, discharges, transfers; serve as a resource to staff for guidance.
- Participate in recruitment, selection, retention, evaluation of personnel, performance appraisals, disciplinary procedures, orientation, training, competence, continuing education, maintain staff records.
- Assist manager in fiscal management of unit, resource utilization, develop and implement services.
15% Professional Development and Leadership:
- Practice as colleague with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams, support collaborative clinical management.
- Contribute to development of self and staff through orientation, continuing education, identify learning needs.
- Collect, analyze, and use data for unit-level quality and process improvement.
- Provide leadership and clinical management through practice, supervision, delegation, teaching.
- Facilitate staff meetings, educational programs, shared decision-making, ensure RN participation in unit-level decision-making, serve on Shared Governance Councils.
- Participate in hospital committees and decision-making.
- Continue professional self-development, maintain professional competencies, attend leadership programs, participate in professional organizations, seek certification.
- Assess impact and plan strategies around diversity, cultural competency, ethics, societal needs, ensure culturally competent care and healthy safe environment.
- Serve as patient safety coach.
10% Research and Evidence-Based Practice:
- Support evidence-based practice by encouraging staff involvement in nursing evaluative research.
Job profile provides overview of responsibilities and duties; not exhaustive; expected to perform other duties as requested by supervisor. As a High Reliability Organization (HRO), responsibilities focus on safety, quality, efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree:
Nursing (required). - BLS – Basic Life Support, American Heart Association.
- RN – Registered Nurse, Ohio Board of Nursing.
- 2-3 years nursing experience in related or similar areas of responsibility.
- Previous leadership experience such as precepting, charge role, clinical lead, mentoring, committee leadership, facilitation of meetings.
- May require advance training in specialty areas; specialized knowledge in nursing process and clinical skills; interpersonal relationships, verbal and written communication, nursing practice standards, computer applications.
