Description:
The position involves working in a corrections health unit environment. Oncology experience is preferred but not required. Key responsibilities include floating to various medical-surgical units as needed. Ensuring staff safety in a secure environment is a priority. The unit comprises inmates requiring medical care. Staff ratios include a nurse to patient ratio of 1:3 for PCU and 1:4-5 for medical-surgical units.
Some shifts may be assigned to medical-surgical units while others will be in the progressive care unit. Weekend shifts will vary based on unit needs. Candidates should be prepared for a mix of day and night shifts. A focus on patient care includes managing complex diagnoses and treatments. The patient population includes individuals with active oncology diagnoses, those undergoing oncology workups, and patients with a history of cancer admitted for other medical reasons.
Skills and competencies required include cardiac monitoring, medication administration, and patient management across various specialties. Support services include pharmacy, physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services. Safety and adherence to protocols are paramount in this working environment.
