Program Overview
The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital Nurse Residency Program offers unique opportunities for newly licensed graduate nurses to transition from student to professional through a full‑time, structured, 14‑24 week paid orientation to oncology nursing. The James is one of 40 National Cancer Institute‑designated comprehensive cancer centers and is the home to pioneering cancer research, prevention, and treatment in a dynamic university hospital setting.
The residency incorporates Patricia Benner’s theoretical model of novice to expert and facilitates socialization into the Medical Center through hands‑on clinical experience, in‑depth classroom learning, and ongoing professional and personal development.

- Support the Cancer Center’s mission by maximizing patient involvement, improving service levels, reducing length of hospitalization, and decreasing costs.
