Overview
36 hours per week working requirement during the non-summer months. No working requirement for an 8‑week period, to be scheduled within the summer months of May through August (exact timeframe discussed with the hiring manager). Positions are open on day shift (7a.m. – 7p.m.) and night shift (7p.m. – 7a.m.). Every third weekend requirement. Holiday requirement to follow unit policy. Position is full‑time benefits eligible and requires 2+ years of inpatient pediatric nursing experience.
Job Description SummaryAssists patients to move rapidly, uneventfully, and as effectively as possible through their episode of care while maintaining quality and safety as a priority. Delegates, directs, oversees, and provides developmentally appropriate patient care. Practices professional nursing and promotes patient advocacy in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and maintains a current Ohio Nursing License.
Essential Functions- Provides nursing care using a Family Centered approach.
- Assesses individualized patient needs.
- Communicates patient care needs and priorities to assigned Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Patient Care Assistants (PCAs), Unit Coordinators, and Allied Health personnel.
- Plans, implements, educates, and evaluates care using Evidence‑Based Practices.
- Utilizes Therapeutic Communication while monitoring the physical, psychological, and social needs of patients and families.
- Engages in the workplace community by staying aware of changes, participating in data collection or auditing, understanding Quality Improvement, and representing staff at relevant meetings.
- Documents according to organizational standards, policies, and procedures.
BSN or Associate’s Degree with a commitment to obtain a BSN within 5 years of hire.
LicensureLicensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio.
Certifications- Current CPR certification required.
- Willingness to obtain and maintain NRP, PALS, ACLS, APHON, or other necessary certifications as determined by the manager.
- Occasionally – Biohazard waste handling, climbing stairs/ladder, driving motor vehicles (work required; additional testing may be required), handling fumes/gases/vapors, hand use (grasping, gripping, turning), lifting/carrying 41–60lbs, lifting/carrying 61–100lbs, using machinery or power tools, pushing/pulling 100lbs or greater with assistance.
- Frequently – bending, twisting, exposure to blood and/or bodily fluids, chemicals/medications, communicable diseases and pathogens, depth perception, electricity, lifting/carrying 0–10lbs, lifting/carrying 11–20lbs, lifting/carrying 21–40lbs, patient equipment, pushing/pulling 0–25lbs, pushing/pulling 26–40lbs, pushing/pulling 41–60lbs, pushing/pulling 61–100lbs, reaching above shoulder, repetitive hand/arm use, sitting, squatting/kneeling.
- Continuously – audible speaking, color vision, computer skills, decision making, hearing acuity, interpreting data, peripheral vision, problem solving, vision (far/near), standing, walking.
