Overview

The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center Health System Buckeye Nurse Residency Program is a full-time, 12-month program that supports new graduate nurses in transitioning from student to professional clinician. The program provides opportunities for developing critical thinking, clinical practice, leadership, and teamwork skills. Cohorts are added monthly and the program integrates hands-on clinical experience, classroom and simulation learning, and professional development through the Patricia Benner model from novice to expert.

Details and Scope

The residency spans multiple specialties including medical and surgical, cardiac, neurological, progressive care, rehabilitation, emergency medicine, and mental health. Residents are supported by a Nurse Residency Director, unit educator, unit managers, and cohort peers.

Positions and Locations

Positions are available at University Hospital, Ross Heart Hospital, East Hospital, Brain & Spine Hospital, Dodd Hospital, and Harding Hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and provide patient care as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Direct and supervise nursing care provided by other team members.
  • Assess, prescribe, implement, coordinate, delegate, and evaluate nursing care.
  • Prioritize patient care needs and lead the patient-care team.
  • Engage patients and families in collaborative care planning.
Qualifications
  • Graduate from a CCNE or ACEN accredited nursing program.
  • Hold current licensure or interim permit from the State of Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • Previous experience in a relevant care setting preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
