We're looking for Registered Nurses (RN) for an immediate travel opening in Columbus, OH for our Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU).
The right RN should have at least 1 year of experience in a PCICU setting. Read below for more details.
Responsibilities- Provide direct care to pediatric patients with cardiovascular conditions, including those recovering from heart surgery, congenital heart defects, or severe arrhythmias.
- Continuously monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, oxygenation, and other critical parameters. Assess patients for changes in condition and respond appropriately.
- Administer medications (including IV drips, blood products, and sedatives) according to protocol, monitor for side effects, and adjust dosages as needed.
- Assist with ventilator management, including non‑invasive and invasive respiratory support, and ensure proper airway management.
- Assist with procedures such as intra‑aortic balloon pumps (IABP), external pacemakers, or ECMO as directed by the cardiology team.
- Provide clear, compassionate communication with patients' families, updating them on their child's condition, care plan, and prognosis. Offer emotional support and education to family members.
- Respond swiftly to cardiac and respiratory emergencies, including code situations and rapid interventions in acute cardiovascular distress.
- Collaborate with pediatric cardiologists, surgeons, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals in a collaborative environment to provide comprehensive care.
- Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, changes in condition, and family interactions in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Educate families and caregivers on post‑operative care, recovery expectations, and signs of complications that may require attention.
- Minimum 1 year of experience as an RN in a PCICU or similar critical care setting.
- BLS, PALS, and ACLS certifications required; 2 years of certification or equivalent.
- Additional certifications may be required before beginning the assignment.
- Must be eligible for state licensure.
- Ability to stand or walk for long periods and to bend, stoop, and lift with proper body mechanics.
- Strong critical thinking skills, communication abilities, and ability to provide compassionate care under pressure.
