Position: Licensed Practical Nurse (Part-time)

Responsibilities

  • Administers nursing care within scope of practice as set forth in Division (F) of Section 4723.01 of Ohio Revised Code under direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician, dentist, podiatrist, optometrist or chiropractor. Tasks include administering oxygen; applying sterile dressings, inserting and reinserting catheters, reinsert gastrotomy tubes, suctions, irrigating wounds; giving enemas, douches; collecting specimens; performing dialysis treatments; operating hemodialysis equipment and monitoring patients during procedures;

    assisting physicians with physical examinations, treatments and laboratory tests; providing first‑aid and emergency care, including cardio‑pulmonary resuscitation and restraining patients; administering controlled drugs such as narcotics and minor tranquilizers, and non‑controlled medication in oral, rectal, topical or injectable form (intramuscular and subcutaneous injections only); providing medication instructions to patients; maintaining medication accountability records and related reports.
  • Observes, documents and reports patient conditions such as medication reactions, treatment responses, patient behavior and progress; prepares and maintains related reports and records (e.g., incident reports, medication reports, seclusion/resraint logs, patient kardex, team plan).
  • Provides general nursing, direct care and/or programming assistance, including measuring vital signs; assisting with personal grooming, hygiene, bathing and daily living activities; administering topical ointments and solutions; repositioning patients; responding to patient alarms; scheduling medical appointments; escorting patients to recreational activities; and providing individual and group activities according to intervention plans.
  • Offers training, orientation and assistance to lower‑level direct‑care staff (hospital aides, orderlies, psychiatric attendants) in delivering unskilled nursing care such as dressing, bathing and feeding; participates in staff conferences, committees, interdisciplinary team meetings, in‑service training and nursing meetings as assigned.
  • Orders medication and medical supplies; cleans nurses’ station and medication room/cart; performs clerical tasks such as answering phones and filing.
Qualifications
  • Licensed Practical Nurse issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723 of the Ohio Revised Code.
  • Proof of completion of an approved course in medication administration.
  • Certified in IV therapy for nursing staff who administer dialysis treatment (Section 4723.17).
  • Biennial renewal of licensure as a practical nurse.
  • Certification in CPR.
  • Knowledge of skilled licensed practical nursing procedures, pharmacology, client/patient care, first‑aid, CPR, general hospital practices, agency or institutional procedures, HIPAA regulations, inventory control, and use of medical equipment such as respirators, dialysis machines and sterilizers.
  • Ability to manage abstract and concrete variables, recognize unusual conditions, take appropriate emergency action, develop rapport with patients, understand manuals and verbal instructions, administer injections and perform medical treatments.
