Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring an active Ohio or compact RN license and telemetry/cardiac monitoring experience.

Details
  • Work in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown) of a hospital environment
  • Day shift schedule with 3x12 hour shifts (7:00 AM to 9:30 PM)
  • Weekday and some weekend coverage required
  • Uses Epic EMR for charting
  • Float to lower acuity units as needed
  • Cares for patients requiring cardiac monitoring, respiratory support, and neurological/psychiatric care
  • Manages patients with substance withdrawal needs
Requirements
  • Active Ohio RN license or compact license required in hand at time of consideration
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience with strong acute care background
  • Current BLS certification required
  • IV certification required
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Skilled in starting and maintaining IVs, peripheral line care, and PICC line management
  • Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur Evac), nasal cannula, and oxygen administration
  • Proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Experience with Rapid Response/Code teams
  • Knowledge of isolation precautions and PPE protocols
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and multitasking skills
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • Two professional references required, with at least one from a Manager/Director or Supervisor and the second from a Charge RN or higher (no coworker references accepted)
Additional Information
  • Start and manage IVs, administer medications safely, and monitor patient vitals and responses
  • Educate patients on treatments and self-care
  • Collaborate with the care team on patient plans
  • Follow hospital policies and maintain patient safety standards
  • Locals accepted at the same rate
  • Requested time off (RTO) must be submitted with application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • Former employees eligible for a travel assignment once away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this health system
  • Ohio fingerprinting process must be completed urgently upon signing contract; candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to a fingerprinting location, while those at extreme distances will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet
  • Prior travel nursing experience is a plus but not required
