Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring an active Ohio or compact RN license and at least 2 years of acute care nursing experience.

Details
  • Work in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) of a hospital setting
  • Care for medical-surgical telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown level patients, including neurological/psychiatric and substance withdrawal cases
  • Rotating 3x12 hour shifts, both Day (7:00-19:30) and Night (19:00-7:30)
  • Schedule includes weekdays and some weekends
  • Uses Epic EMR for charting
  • Floating to lower acuity units required as needed
Requirements
  • Active Ohio RN license or compact license required in hand at time of consideration
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience with strong acute care background
  • BLS certification required
  • IV certification required
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Nursing education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, peripheral and PICC line management, starting and maintaining IVs, respiratory care (chest tubes, nasal cannula, oxygen administration), cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and use of rapid response/code teams
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and multitasking skills required
  • Two professional references required, with at least one from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role; a Charge RN may serve as the second reference; coworker references not accepted
Additional Information
  • Responsibilities include starting and managing IVs, administering medications safely, monitoring vital signs and patient responses, educating patients on treatments and self-care, and collaborating with the care team on patient plans
  • Must follow all hospital policies and maintain patient safety standards at all times
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements promptly upon signing contract; those outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to a fingerprinting location, while those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
  • Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of Ohio State University hospital locations are not eligible to be hired as travelers
  • RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • First-time travelers may be considered as travel experience is not required
