Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced PCU RN for a night shift position requiring at least 1 year of stepdown/med-surg experience and comfort with respiratory support devices.

Details
  • Work in a 31-bed mixed acuity Progressive Care Unit (PCU) supporting medicine services
  • Care for a variety of stepdown and med/surg patients
  • Standard Med-Surg assignments are typically 4:1, PCU assignments are typically 3:1, though travelers may occasionally be flexed to a 5:1 Med-Surg assignment based on unit needs
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:30
  • Floating required within the OSU organization as needed
  • Uses EPIC for documentation and Omnicell for medication management
Requirements
  • Active Ohio or compact RN license required in hand at time of submission
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of PCU or relevant nursing experience required
  • Charge RN experience preferred and must be charge-capable on nights
  • Must be comfortable with CPAP/BiPAP management, medication titrations, chest tube management, and cardiac drip titration
  • Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and use of Rapid Response/Code teams
  • Experience with isolation precautions/PPE, wound care/wound vac, telemetry, IV therapy/phlebotomy, and peripheral line care
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role and no coworker references accepted
Additional Information
  • Provide comprehensive respiratory, cardiac, and general nursing care to a mixed acuity patient population
  • Manage non-invasive airway support including CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and oxygen administration
  • Perform feeding tube care, heparin protocols, and PCA management as needed
  • First-time travelers are accepted for this position
  • Locals are accepted at the same rate
  • Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are ineligible to be hired as a traveler
  • RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements urgently upon signing the contract, either by driving to a fingerprinting location in-state or completing a mailed fingerprinting packet if located a significant distance away
