Description:
The position requires managing and starting IVs. Administer medications safely. Monitor vital signs and patient responses. Educate patients on treatments and self-care. Collaborate with the care team on patient plans. Utilize an electronic medical record system for charting. May need to float to lower acuity units if required. Follow hospital policies and maintain patient safety. This role involves working with adult and geriatric patients.
The daily patient census is approximately 23. Patients may present with various general medical issues, including opioid abuse, organ failure, and behavioral issues. Special procedures include foley catheter insertions, PICC line management, administering IV antibiotics, chest tube management, paracentesis, and lumbar punctures. The unit is a mixed medical-surgical unit with transitional beds. Interdisciplinary support is available from physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, pharmacy, and more.
