Description:
Weekdays and some weekends are required. Rotating holidays included. Floating within units of equivalent or lower acuity is required. Estimated patient ratios are 1:1 to 2. Orientation includes 24 hours of training. Up to 6 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule period may be required. Saturday and Sunday are designated for dayshift while Friday and Saturday for night shift. Staff will care for patients in the Cardiovascular ICU.
Patients may include those recovering from CABG, valve repair, TAVR, heart transplant, lung transplant, and VAD implantation. Care for patients on ECMO, aortic repairs, and esophageal repairs will also be expected. Secondary diagnoses may include low cardiac output syndrome, stroke, acute respiratory distress/failure, renal impairment/failure, diabetes mellitus, pulmonary embolism, pneumonia, sepsis, GI bleed, heart failure, and unstable dysrhythmias. Special equipment includes total artificial hearts, ventricular assist devices, ECMO, CRRT, hemodynamic monitoring, IABP, Impella, and ventilators.
Experience with IV start, tele, vents, Swanz, conscious sedation, balloon pumps, PA lines is required. Strong skills in managing complex patient needs, including interpreting arterial blood gases and dysrhythmias, are essential. Candidates must be responsive throughout the credentialing process. Two professional references are required, with at least one from a manager or someone in a formal leadership role. Candidates must have completed their education from an accredited nursing program.
