American Traveler is seeking an RN for a Progressive Care Unit position specializing in acute leukemia and hematology care, requiring an Ohio or compact RN license and 2 years of acute care experience.
Details- Progressive Care Unit (PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown) setting within a cancer hospital
- Care for adult and geriatric patients newly diagnosed with acute leukemia
- Patient ratio goal of 1:4, with the possibility of 1:5
- 12-hour Day (7:00-19:30) or Night (19:00-7:30) shifts on a rotating basis
- Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on staffing priorities
- Variable weekend requirements based on unit needs
- Uses Epic charting system
- Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls prevention
- Active RN license (Ohio state or Compact) in hand at time of submission
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- NIHSS certification required
- ONS Chemo certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months
- At least 1 year of PCU experience required
- Oncology experience preferred; training provided for oncology patient care
- Skilled in telemetry monitoring and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias
- Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy and starting/maintaining IVs
- Experience with central line and PICC line care/management
- Experience with peripheral line care/management and blood product administration
- Experience accessing/managing ports preferred
- Feeding tube care and management experience
- Experience utilizing Rapid Response Teams
- Epic charting experience required
- Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role;
Charge RN acceptable as second reference; no coworker references accepted
- Provide direct nursing care to newly diagnosed acute leukemia and hematology patients
- Utilize Rapid Response Team protocols as needed for patient emergencies
- Complete Ohio fingerprinting process urgently upon signing contract due to state requirements
- Candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location as soon as possible after booking
- Candidates at extreme distances will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet to complete urgently
- First-time travelers will be considered for this position
- Former employees eligible for a travel assignment after 6+ months away from the facility
- Current employees of Ohio State University hospital locations are ineligible for travel positions
- RTO must be requested and built into the contract at time of submission, limited to 7 days or less
- Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate
