American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring at least 2 years of acute care experience, including 1 year in PCU, with an active OH or compact RN license.
Details- Work in a 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU-level care
- Care for Medical Oncology patients with progressive care needs, including Solid Tumor, Orthopedic Oncology, and Thoracic Oncology diagnoses
- Rare pediatric patients may be present but are typically cared for by permanent staff
- 12-hour night shift schedule (19:00-7:30), 3 shifts per week
- Potential for rotating day/night shifts based on department needs, with assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
- Patient ratios of 1:4-5 for Med Surg Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU
- Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level
- Weekend shifts are variable
- Uses B450 GE telemetry monitors, bladder scanner, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, continuous bladder irrigation, and PCA pumps
- Epic EMR experience required
- Active OH or compact RN license in hand at time of submission
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience, consistently worked within the last 12 months
- At least 1 year of PCU experience required
- Oncology experience preferred but not required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Nursing education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- Skilled in interpretation of dysrhythmias, use of rapid response teams, feeding tube care, port access, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line care, IV starts, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management, PCA, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula, and tracheostomy management
- Preferred skills include dysrhythmia management, IV insulin protocols, insulin drip titration, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, surgical drains, and non-invasive airway management
- 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role;
Charge RN acceptable for second reference; no coworker references accepted
- Provide progressive care nursing to oncology patients with a heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
- Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is valued
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Locals are accepted at the same rate
- RTO must be submitted and built into the contract at time of submission, limited to 7 days or less
- Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
- Current employees of the health system are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this facility
- Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting as soon as they sign their contract due to strict compliance timelines
- Candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location promptly after booking; those at extreme distances will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet
