Description

American Traveler is hiring a Stepdown RN for an acute leukemia and hematology unit requiring 2 years of acute care experience and a compact or Ohio RN license.

Details
  • Work in the Stepdown/PCU unit of a cancer hospital, caring for acute leukemia and hematology patients
  • Primarily care for newly diagnosed acute leukemia patients, including adults and geriatrics
  • Staffing ratio goal of 1:4, potentially up to 1:5
  • 12-hour Day/Night rotating shifts (7:00-19:30 or 19:00-7:30), with shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
  • Shift may vary between days, nights, or a combination based on departmental needs
  • Variable weekend requirements based on unit needs
  • Uses Epic for computerized charting
Requirements
  • Active RN license (Ohio or Compact) in hand at time of consideration
  • Current certifications: BLS and ACLS required; NIHSS, ONS Chemo Certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of total acute care nursing experience, with at least 1 year of PCU experience
  • Acute care experience must be current and consistently worked within the last 12 months
  • Oncology experience preferred; training provided for oncology patient care
  • Required skills:

    telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation, IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care/management, peripheral line care/management, starting and maintaining IVs, feeding tube care, use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Preferred skills: accessing/managing ports
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
  • Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager, director, or supervisor; charge RN acceptable for the second reference; coworker references not accepted
Additional Information
  • Deliver step-down level nursing care with a strong focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls prevention
  • Chemo certification is not required for this role
  • First-time travelers will be considered
  • Former employees eligible for travel assignment after 6+ months away from the facility
  • Current employees of the health system are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this location
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate
  • RTO must be requested and built into the contract prior to consideration, limited to 7 days or less
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing the contract due to strict compliance timelines
  • Candidates located outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location shortly after booking; those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet
