Organizational Context

The University Laboratory Animal Resources (ULAR), under the auspices of the Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge (ERIK), supports the mission of providing humane animal care and facilitating biomedical research discoveries within the Colleges of Medicine, Public Health, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture, and Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Responsibilities
  • feeding, watering, housing and sanitizing enclosures of animals as required by standard operating procedures for species.
  • observing and reporting health conditions and maintaining record systems and inventory of animals via electronic systems; maintaining supplies and sanitation of animal housing and procedure areas; and operating large equipment such as rack washers, tunnel washers, and autoclaves.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent certificate.
Desired Qualifications
  • Six (6) months’ work experience providing direct care for animals in a program setting or facility.
  • Current AALAS registration as Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician. Experience should be fully documented on the application form. The application will be used to evaluate if candidates meet the minimum requirements for the position and for consideration when determining starting pay rate.
Salary

The minimum starting rate is $19.00 and will depend on the candidate's qualifications.
