Research Scientist
Department: Engineering | Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
The Aerospace Research Center within the Departments of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and Materials Science Engineering seeks a Research Scientist. The position offers a competitive salary and benefits.
The Research Scientist will independently design, manage, and perform experiments in hypersonic facilities (including those available and desired at OSU) and test & evaluation facilities at US federal laboratories such as AFRL. Responsibilities include developing and deploying modal, reduced-order, and data-driven methods for the design and analysis of multi-physics experiments and computations, including those interfacing with material properties. The role involves preparing research results for publication, presenting findings at national meetings, disseminating scientific knowledge, assisting with lab management, developing grant proposals as principal investigator, obtaining external research and salary support, and participating in research planning.
AdditionalInformation:
Required: Doctoral degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or a related field; 2+ years post-doctoral experience in computational and experimental hypersonic structures and materials; several high-impact journal and conference publications; experience presenting to professional societies; contributions to new designs or techniques of material significance; experience in writing research proposals; ability to secure independent funding.
