Job Title:
Post Doctoral Scholar - Comprehensive Cancer Center## Department:
Medicine | School Biomedical Sciences Cancer Biology and Genetics Dr. Yang Gao joined The Ohio State University (OSU) in August 2025 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cancer Biology & Genetics, where he is establishing an independent research program. Supported by generous start-up funding from OSU and an active NIH K99/R00 award, the Gao Lab provides a strong and stable foundation for scientific discovery.
We are seeking 2 Postdoctoral Scholars to join our growing team and explore how tumor–immune interactions shape cancer progression and therapy response. Our Research At the Gao Lab, we study the tumor ecosystem with a focus on three major themes:
* The heterogeneity of the immune landscape
* Mechanisms of therapeutic resistance
* The role of tumor–host interactions in cancer metastasis
Our work aims to uncover why treatment resistance and distant recurrence occur in solid tumors, with a special emphasis on breast cancer.
Our discoveries so far include showing how myeloid cell heterogeneity contributes to immunotherapy resistance and revealing how the bone microenvironment shapes breast cancer bone metastasis.
Current projects in the lab:
Exploring how neutrophil interferon-stimulated genes regulate the tumor immune microenvironment and response to immunotherapy. Mapping the immunosuppressive ecosystems that support breast cancer metastasis in major organs, including bone, lung, liver, and brain. Identifying new mechanisms that drive therapeutic resistance in metastatic disease.
To tackle these questions, we use cutting-edge technologies, including spatial transcriptomics, single-cell multi-omics, tumor immunology, and in vivo genetically engineered mouse models. By bringing these approaches together, we strive to generate insights that will translate into better therapies and improved outcomes for patients.
Required Qualifications
* Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences, Oncology, Immunology, Molecular or Cellular Biology, or a related field
* At least one first-author publication in a relevant research area
* Experience with animal models, spatial transcriptomics, or multi-omics integration is highly desirable
* Strong written and oral communication skills; team-oriented and self-motivated
We Offer
* Competitive NIH-scale salary and full OSU benefits
* Mentorship and career-development support, including guidance for independent fellowships (e.g., NIH K99/R00)
How to Apply
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until positions are filled. Please include the following documents with your application:
