Overview
Post Doctoral Scholar position in the Carpenter Nanoparticle Spectroscopy Group, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, The Ohio State University. The postdoctoral researcher will perform independent experiments in single-molecule and single-particle optical spectroscopy, centered around the heterogeneity and chemical dynamics of biological nanocompartments and nanomedicine particles.
Responsibilities- Perform independent experiments in single-molecule and single-particle optical spectroscopy, centered around the heterogeneity and chemical dynamics of biological nanocompartments and nanomedicine particles.
- Work independently on research projects decided on jointly by the postdoctoral fellow and the PI, and generate data and insights for scientific publication and presentation at professional meetings.
- Establish single-particle microscopy and spectroscopy infrastructure, including sample preparation protocols and construction of optical microscopes designed for single-particle and single-molecule measurements.
- Assist with the general development of the lab, including assisting with funding proposals and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in sample preparation protocols, optical techniques, data analysis, and scientific communication.
- Required:
PhD in chemistry, physics, biomedical engineering, or other related discipline. Experience in spectroscopy and imaging in molecular systems, as demonstrated by scientific publications in the field. - Required skills include operation and alignment of laser instrumentation, and programming experience in MATLAB/Python/LabVIEW for data analysis and software experimental control.
- Strong written and oral communications skills, interpersonal skills for collaborative science and mentorship, problem-solving skills, ability to learn new research techniques, and ability to generate new research ideas.
