Student lab assistant

Job Responsibilities

• Assist and provide support of research studies as directed in the laboratory of Dr. James Blachly.
• Conduct planned research activities using observation, measurement and analytical techniques.
• Prepare solutions and live culture media for scientific experiments.
• Perform a variety of assays and experimental tests.
• Collect, sort and process tissue and blood samples.
• Record and consolidate research data.
• Perform routine experimental procedures on laboratory animals, including surgical procedures and/or administration of drugs.
• Assist with preparation of data and materials for inclusion in research reports, publications and grant applications written by the principal investigator.
• Research current scientific literature on specified topics.
• Assist with instructing research aides, undergraduate and graduate students in laboratory procedures and operation of equipment.
• Calibrate various laboratory equipment and operate microscopes, centrifuges and other laboratory equipment.
• Assist with ordering, stocking and maintenance of research supplies.

High school diploma / GED required. Must be enrolled in a degree‑granting program at Ohio State University.
