Job Description & How to Apply Below

The Gallagher Laboratory at Nationwide Children’s Hospital/Ohio State University seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow with a strong biomedical research background to join our team. The Gallagher laboratory is an interdisciplinary and highly collaborative team focused on understanding fundamental mechanisms of normal and perturbed hematopoiesis with a particular focus on normal and perturbed erythropoiesis.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

We are seeking a well‑organized, highly motivated postdoctoral fellow with a background in molecular biology interested in hematology. In this position, the applicants will be expected to lead projects focused on understanding mechanism of erythroid cell development.

  • Molecular Biology and Physiology
    :
Apply molecular biology and physiology strategies to study of erythropoiesis. Skills include cell manipulation and culture, FACS, and animal‑model based studies.
  • Advanced Research Design & Execution
    :
Lead and execute independent research projects dissecting regulation of erythropoiesis
  • Cutting-Edge Multi-omics & Genomics
    :
Perform genomics-based techniques. Understand integration of complex datasets, including population genetics, functional genomics, and CRISPR screening, for experimental use.
  • Translational Therapeutics Development
    :
Collaborate with comprehensive institutional core facilities to translate basic findings into novel targeted strategies.
  • Scientific Leadership & Communication
    :
Lead the drafting of high-impact scientific manuscripts, present findings at local and national meetings, and collaborate with internal and external research partners.
  • Career Independence
    :
Execute a tailored career transition plan to develop the professional skills necessary for a successful move into an independent academic or industry position.
LABORATORY ACTIVITIES

Our research focus is understanding clinical, translational, and basic aspects of normal and perturbed hematopoiesis, inherited and acquired disorders of the erythrocyte, and volume regulation and ion transport in the erythrocyte in normal and disease states. Another major focus is study of gene regulation during hematopoiesis including the role of specific transcription factors and epigenetic factors, as well as chromatin architecture and DNA methylation, on the regulation of entire programs of genes.

We apply genomic strategies, including scRNA and miRNA transcriptome analyses, RNA seq, ChIP‑seq, CUT&RUN, CUT&tag technology, ATAC sequencing, methylation studies, as well as novel phosphor- and quantitative proteomics techniques, to the understanding of hematopoiesis.

TRAINING ACTIVITIES

The PI is strongly committed to the professional fulfillment and career advancement of all trainees. He will work on creating a successful transition plan to academia or industry for the fellow in accordance with their evolving preferences. The fellow will have access to the very strong Office of Trainee Affairs at AWRI and more broadly numerous opportunities at the Ohio State University.

The stipend will follow the NIH guideline: (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below)..html

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Highly motivated individuals who have obtained or are about to obtain an MD, DVM, or PhD in Biology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related areas are encouraged to apply. Record of publication, excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Preferences will be given to those with research experience in erythroid or hematopoietic cell biology, genetics, genomics, and population genetics.
