Position OverviewPost Doctoral Scholar to pursue specialized research training, education, and experience under the guidance of the Principal Investigator in the Department of Molecular Medicine & Therapeutics (Nishiga Lab).
Responsibilities- Plan, design, and execute experiments of considerable scope and complexity focusing on mechanisms of heart failure and cardiomyopathies.
- Conduct advanced cell biology research utilizing human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), including reprogramming, maintenance, and differentiation into cardiomyocytes and non-myocyte cells.
- Utilize CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing to model genetic cardiovascular diseases.
- Perform molecular biology techniques (qPCR, Western blotting, cloning, library preparation for omics).
- Collect and analyze data; actively prepare and submit fellowship grant applications.
- Contribute to manuscript preparation, mentor junior lab members, attend research seminars, perform additional duties as assigned.
Doctoral degree in Biological Sciences, Molecular Biology, Medicine, or related field.
Required QualificationsExtensive experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques.
Preferred Qualifications- Demonstrated expertise in human iPSC culture (reprogramming and differentiation).
- Experience with CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing.
- Background in cardiovascular physiology or heart failure mechanisms.
- Proven track record of productivity (first-author publications); strong scientific writing skills for funding/fellowship applications.
Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards; requires successful completion of EHS safety training; frequently sits at a computer or microscope; frequently stands to perform bench work; occasionally lifts objects up to 20 lbs (e.g., reagent boxes); requires visual acuity to perform microscopy and analyze data.
