Research Technician 1
Department: FAES | Animal Sciences
The Research Technician 1 will support a nutrition study utilizing continuous cultures inoculated with rumen microbiota. This role plays a key part in sample collection, laboratory analyses, and day‑to‑day operations of an active research lab focused on ruminant nutrition. The technician will collaborate regularly with graduate and undergraduate students and contribute to maintaining a safe, organized, and compliant laboratory environment.
Responsibilities Laboratory Research Support (50%)- Collects, processes, and prepares samples for a variety of nutrient analyses related to continuous culture fermentation studies.
- Coordinates with other students and research personnel involved in sample collection and processing.
- Mixes chemical solutions and prepares reagents according to established protocols.
- Utilizes standard laboratory instruments and follows established procedures to ensure data quality and reproducibility.
- Coordinates ordering of laboratory supplies, reagents, and consumables.
- Prepares, organizes, and ships samples to commercial analytical laboratories as needed.
- Ensures samples are correctly identified, stored, and tracked using appropriate labeling and record‑keeping methods.
- Maintains laboratory safety standards, cleanliness, and compliance with university guidelines.
- Organizes and maintains laboratory notebooks, digital records, and documentation required for research activities.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- 0 years of relevant experience required.
