Lab Specialist – Formulation Technician
Location: Columbus, OH Area (Onsite)
Position Type: Contract-to-Hire Potential
Our client is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Lab Specialist to join a growing Life Sciences laboratory team. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates, early-career laboratory professionals, or individuals with academic laboratory experience who are eager to develop hands-on technical skills in a regulated research environment.
The Lab Specialist will support formulation preparation, sample management, laboratory operations, and project activities while working alongside experienced scientists and technical staff. Comprehensive training is provided, including laboratory safety, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), instrumentation, and formulation techniques.
Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare formulations and laboratory solutions according to established protocols
Support sample preparation, packaging, documentation, and shipment activities
Perform laboratory housekeeping, glassware cleaning, dishwashing, and workspace organization
Operate balances, stir plates, mixing equipment, and other laboratory tools
Assist with formulation mixing techniques and preparation procedures
Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with GLP, ISO, and EPA requirements
Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and laboratory safety guidelines
Utilize Microsoft Excel and Word for data entry, tracking, and documentation
Support inventory organization and laboratory supply management
Work safely with hazardous chemicals while using required PPE
Assist senior staff with laboratory projects and testing activities as needed
Associate degree, Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent coursework in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Life Sciences, Engineering Technology, or a related scientific field
Laboratory experience gained through work, internships, research, or academic coursework
Basic understanding of laboratory practices and safety procedures
Experience using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
Ability to accurately follow written procedures and instructions
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to lift and move materials weighing 20–50 pounds
Ability to work in a regulated laboratory environment
U.S. Citizenship required
Experience working under GLP, ISO, EPA, or other regulated environments
Prior formulation, chemical mixing, or sample preparation experience
Experience with laboratory balances and measuring equipment
Knowledge of laboratory documentation practices
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new equipment and techniques
Extensive onboarding and technical training will be provided, including:
Laboratory safety training
Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
Volume metric glassware training
Balance operation and calibration training
Formulation and mixing techniques
Exposure to laboratory instrumentation including:
LC equipment
UV detectors
pH meters
Polytron mixers
Overhead mixing systems
100% onsite laboratory environment
Exposure to chemicals and laboratory materials
PPE provided and required when applicable
Some lifting and physical movement of laboratory materials required
Collaborative team environment with experienced scientific staff
9/80 work schedule
Five days one week
Four days the following week
