Job Title: Research Senior Technician – Molecular Medicine & Therapeutics
Department: Medicine | School Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics (MMT), Pelotonia Research Center (PRC)
Role OverviewAssist and support scientific investigation into cardiovascular disease mechanisms by working with human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) in the laboratory of Dr. Masataka Nishiga MD PhD.
Responsibilities- Independently conduct assigned experiments and perform molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques, including maintenance and differentiation of human iPSC lines, CRISPR-based genome editing, cloning, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, assays, immunostaining, and Western blot analysis.
- Sort and process biological samples; test and evaluate current procedures.
- Record, consolidate, and assist with analysis of research results; prepare research progress reports.
- Assist in evaluating the validity of data and summarize findings for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts.
- Help prepare publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts for the principal investigator.
- Conduct literature searches and assist in training junior research staff, undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation.
- Support initial laboratory setup, organization of equipment, and establishment of safety protocols.
- Operate laboratory equipment, monitor supplies, maintain inventory, and initiate procurement requests as needed.
Bachelor's level degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required QualificationsBachelor's degree or equivalent experience required; 4 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED, 2 years of relevant experience required with Associate's degree, or 0 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's degree. Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in biological/health science research is required.
