The Department of {Neurology, Neuroimmunology division} seeks a Researcher to conduct complex scientific investigations in a foundational biological/health science laboratory. Serving as a specialist or technical expert in {the field of immunology}, the incumbent collaborates closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) to design, manage, and implement research projects. Responsibilities include planning, designing, and conducting advanced experiments; executing molecular, biochemical, or other specialized procedures;
and providing technical expertise in {a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques, including rodent handling, rodent surgeries, PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis assays, cell cultures, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and computational analyses.}. The Researcher extracts, analyzes, and evaluates experimental data; develops and implements new or revised methodologies; and establishes criteria, controls, and standards to achieve project goals.
The role contributes to scholarly output by preparing manuscripts, abstracts, and reports for publication in scientific journals, and presenting findings at national and international conferences and workshops. The Researcher actively supports grant development by drafting, editing, and critiquing proposals; identifying potential funding sources; and cultivating relationships with current and prospective sponsors. Additional responsibilities include overseeing laboratory operations, ensuring proper maintenance of equipment, negotiating and managing service contracts, and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols.
The incumbent monitors compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations, trains research staff in new methodologies, and serves as a consultant to other investigators in their area of expertise.
Master's Degree or equivalent experience required; 5 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree, or 3 years of relevant experience required with Master's Degree. Considerable experience in a biological/health research capacity is required, along with strong knowledge and expertise in {immunology and molecular biology}. Experience in a progressively responsible administrative role and in planning and developing research projects is preferred.
Requires successful completion of a background check; qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
