Post Doctoral Scholar

The postdoctoral fellow will contribute to the HELM initiative at OSU, an interdisciplinary project that delves deep into the intersections of health, environment, and societal contexts. Through advanced computational methods and collaboration, HELM addresses global challenges by blending eco-social health determinants, human-natural system interactions, and convergence research. The selected candidate will work alongside a dynamic team of scholars, engage in innovative project development, and participate in boundary-spanning research activities.

This position is contingent upon funding and will end on or before August 1, 2028, with possibility of renewal based on continued availability of funding and performance.

• Ph.D. or other terminal degree in relevant field

• PhD in Mathematical Economics and Social Science
• Candidates should have experience in at least one of the following areas:
• Statistical programming and data analysis using R, Python, or Matlab
• Spatial data analysis or GIS
• Whole-genome sequencing, phylogenetics, or phylodynamics
• Data management and reproducible analytical workflows
• Quantitative modeling and statistical inference.
• Applicants are not expected to have expertise in all areas but should demonstrate strong quantitative skills and an interest in interdisciplinary collaborative research.

Pay Range: $62,232-$65,000 annual estimated base salary

• 50% - Research and Development
• - Drive forward the primary research goals of the HELM initiative.
• - Develop, execute, and oversee research projects, ensuring alignment with HELM's objectives.
• - Analyze, interpret, and present data in a meaningful manner.
• 10% - Collaboration
• - Work closely with HELM faculty, students, and administrative staff to achieve project milestones.
• - Engage in interdisciplinary dialogues both within OSU and externally.
• - Assist in fostering collaborations with other OSU departments.
• 10% - Publication and Dissemination
• - Prepare research findings for publication in high-impact journals.
• - Present research outcomes at conferences, workshops, and seminars.
• - Contribute to the creation of reports and other documentation as required.
• 10% - Training and Mentorship
• - Support training modules for undergraduate and graduate students.
• - Offer guidance and mentorship to junior researchers and students involved in the HELM initiative.
• 10% - Funding Support
• - Contribute to grant application processes, from identification of opportunities to submission of proposals.
• - Engage in research activities that align with external funding objectives, ensuring adherence to grant conditions.
• 5% - Event Participation
• - Play an active role in the annual HELM workshop and other related events.
• - Engage in networking events, promoting the objectives and goals of the HELM project.
• 5% - Other duties as assigned to support departmental and college work.
